Esports Workshops for Orange County High School Students

Don’t waste your weekend! Join us for a series of workshops to improve your game, to learn about the behind-the-scenes work of Esports, and to meet other high school Esports players, in-person! Each week will include a new theme surrounding competitive League of Legends play, including topics like building a gaming PC, lane strategy, and casting. During each workshop, participants will have a chance to practice these exciting new skills. Join us each Saturday at the UCI esports arena – we look forward to seeing you there!

In this workshop, we will learn to play better by looking at the game and characters with the help of some University of California, Irvine (UCI) esports analysts. Whether you want to build a global horde of followers on Twitch or just let your friends watch your games, streaming is a useful way to share your games with others. In this workshop we’ll cover the basics of online streaming, including tips on setting up your stream, on creativity, dealing with trolls.

Join this workshop to learn more about how to run your own tournaments and about the jobs that are available to support competitive gaming!

  • Students will not be allowed to enter any of the workshops unless all forms are signed and submitted.
  • For students 18 years old, they may sign the forms directly.
  • For students attended more than one workshop, they only have to submit one set of completed waiver and release forms.

If you intend to park on campus during the workshop, we recommend parking at the Student Center Parking Structure.

Venue

The UCI Esports Arena is the first of its kind on a college campus. The arena is located at the heart of campus on the Student Center Terrace. Students, staff, faculty, alumni and guests are welcome, where we provide a variety of the most popular games at UCI.

With the support of their sponsors, they have decked out the 3,500 sq. ft. space with 72 top-of-the-line iBUYPOWER computers, Logitech gaming gear, and Vertagear chairs. In addition to the PCs, we have a Console & Community Corner where campus clubs and organizations can host events and meetings and where we demo virtual reality. The arena also houses our Oomba Broadcasting Station.

Questions
  • Will you provide transportation to the workshops?  No. It is the student’s responsibility to get to and from the UCI Sports Arena.
  • I don’t attend a high school in Orange County. Can I still register for a workshop? No. The workshops are being offered only to students attending high schools located in Orange County.
  • Do I have pay to attend a workshop? No. Registration is free but you must register and submit all your forms to attend a workshop.
  • Can I sign up for more than one workshop? Yes. You can sign up for as many as you would like, however, space is limited so we ask that you sign up for only workshops you are interested and available to attend.
  • Do I need to bring any equipment or anything else to the workshop? No. Just make sure to have your permission slips, but you won’t have to bring anything else.
  • Are the workshops focused on League of Legends?  The workshops are centered around League of Legends and will not extend to other sports as this time. That being said, a few of the workshops are general – building a pc, running a tournament for example. Both of these workshops will include non-league specific content. We look forward to extending the content in the future, but at the moment most of these workshops will use league as the example/focus.
  • Why do I have to complete a media release form? We will be filming and capturing images during the workshops that will be used for marketing and social media purposes.
  • What type of supervision is required for minors to attend workshops?  At least one Orange County school district teacher will be on site every week during each workshop so that, along with University staff, students are monitored from drop off to pick up.
  • How do I register? Registration Process:
